Gandalf claimed Glamdring for himself and used the sword during the quest for Erebor, as well as on the quest to destroy the one ring. In the third age of middle-earth, wizard Gandalf and the dwarves discovered a troll lair in Rhudaur. Elven swords and knives were found there. When Elrond examined these blades in Rivendell he determined they were well-known and ancient blades used in the goblin wars to slay many orcs in the first age.
